This 19th Century old pine food safe or larder store is a humble and utilitarian piece that would have been a staple in Victorian or early rural kitchens.
Wire panelled sides using coarse gauge chicken wire, a practical adaption typical of rural kitchens. Unlike finer mesh used in more formal settings, this robust wire allowed for airflow while keeping out pests, reflecting the make do approach of working households.
As a charming twist it would also make a brilliant vintage puppy crate – keeping a rustic repurposed feel.
